fight for the write |
2002-04-08 |
ooh ooh ooh! remember that article i procrastinated writing until 2 days after my extension of 5 days? this is the (only) one i've mentioned... the assignment to explore the moral, social and political aspects of design? well, i began it last night around 11:30. i rewrote the first line like 8 times and the first paragraph twice that. while i don't try to write the intro first, i do write my way into a topic. so, after many false starts and several total deletes, i finished the 4 pager at 1:30. 2 pages/hour isn't my best time, but it was late and i was tired, so i'm not gonna harp on that. but i will mention that i once wrote a 10 page analysis of a william carlos william's poem (for fred chappell's modern poetry class) in less than 4 hours, used both bordo and foucault in my analysis, and got an A. [ah, college days] anyway! i saved and sent my little thrown out article that addressed everything from conscious design to social justice to designer responsibility to interdisciplinary approaches to guerrilla graphics... and they love it. they read it and called me on the PHONE to tell me how awesome this article is and how they're changing the organization so that it's being used a feature. [i guess it helps that i wrote a lot more than 1000 words] not that i doubted my own brilliance, but DAMN! who the fuck knew. i pulled most of that out of my ass, though i really do admire guerrilla graphics and i think if i ever launch an independent press, there will definitely be a guerrilla graphics department (how anti guerrilla is that?). i love this feeling.
you got something to say?
